About Us

How we’re different / Why us.

Though an American and westerner, being born and raised in Hong Kong and Taiwan, educated between Taiwan and America, and having spent more than 21 years in Asia, I am not only native in English and Mandarin (spoken without any accent, that’s right, NONE.

Some people claim that but other than myself I’ve never seen or heard of it. Don’t take my word for it, call me!) but also multi-cultural, possessing keen insight to the nuances and subtleties, psychology, merits, customs and traditions of both East and West.

The average educated Chinese person knows a vocabulary of approximately 7000 words and uses about 2000 within the course of a week during daily conversation. According to testing done at the National United University in Taiwan I have a command of well over 10,000 traditional characters in the Mandarin/Chinese language (based on testing done by the Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency of Huayu in Taiwan) as well as being certified with the highest possible rank of rank 7 in the advanced TOP (Test of Proficiency) examination also known as the HKS (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) in China.

I am also fluent in spoken Cantonese, with an additional 3 years training in Spanish and some basic Fukenese. Even without special training anyone who is fluent in traditional characters can easily understand at least 90% of simplified characters, but with practice and or the use of a computer there is no difficulty between traditional and simplified characters that the click of a button cannot fix.

I find languages fun as well as being the key to understanding the psychology of a people and their culture. Everyone can walk but not everyone can dance; everyone can talk but not everyone can use words eloquently, tactfully, and communicate effectively to get what you want.

Recently I’ve finished translating from Chinese to English a book entitled “Tea and the Dao” written by a retired history professor Ruan Zhi Sheng of Tai Da university, the no. 1 ranked university in Taiwan.

The author being a history professor, many of the articles and poems were very archaic and most translators would find it very difficult if not outright impossible to translate, but I found it a refreshing challenge.

When my family first came to China as missionaries back in 76, there were no westerners here. I am routinely told my Chinese is far better than most Chinese themselves.

The simple truth is, I’m the very best there is, and if anyone out there claims they can do it better, they’re lying and I’d be happy to prove it. I take pride in having unrivaled quality, and the bottom line, which is to deliver and deliver on time!
